What is Cementitious Urethane Flooring?

What is Cementitious Urethane?

Also known as urethane mortar or urethane concrete, cementitious urethane is made up of 4 main materials:

  • Urethane
  • Water
  • Cement
  • Aggregate

The liquids, water and urethane, are mixed with Portland cement to create a solid surface. So solid, in fact, that it is known for having two times the amount of strength as concrete alone. Cementitious urethane flooring is installed in thickness between 1/8”-1/4”, depending on the needs of the facility.

What’s So Great About Cementitious Urethane Flooring?

This type of flooring is great for industrial and commercial settings because of its versatility, durability, and ability to be exposed to extreme and challenging environments.
Benefit #1: Cementitious urethane flooring can withstand high heat.
Being able to withstand extreme temperatures is one of the benefits that make cementitious urethane flooring one of the best choices for industrial settings. It can withstand temperatures below 300 degrees Fahrenheit and over 200 degrees Fahrenheit without buckling or changing shape.
Benefit #2: It acts as a barrier against liquids.
Other popular industrial flooring materials like concrete attract water which causes growth of mold and mildew if the water is allowed to sit or soak into the flooring’s pores. These more porous floors also tend to gather dirt and bacteria easily. Cementitious urethane is known for its ability to provide a barrier against liquids, meaning your facility is less likely to accumulate mold and bacteria.
Benefit #3: Cementitious urethane bonds easily to existing subflooring.
If your facility already has concrete and you’re in need of something stronger, cementitious urethane can be poured right over top of the existing concrete. It bonds exceptionally well to the subfloor and will expand and contract as needed when it is being laid in order to create a strong and solid surface.

This type of flooring cures rather quickly, which means the installation process is quick and easy. It emits zero VOC, has little odor, and is free of solvents, making it a safe and healthy choice for your industrial facility or commercial setting.
