What Is It?

Epoxy is an extremely durable coating that is applied on top of concrete. A chemical bond forms between epoxy resin and a hardener. Once this bond cures, there will be a hard protective substance left guarding your concrete. Anywhere there are concrete floors, an epoxy coating can be applied. Nowadays, and for a long time now, epoxy flooring has been one of the most popular choices for flooring.

When Were Epoxy Floors Made

The invention of the epoxy floor occurred in the former portion of the 30th century. An inventor in Switzerland named Pierre Castam was the first to create an epoxy polymer for commercial use in 1936. It quickly rose to popularity, and before too long, epoxy floors could be found across the globe! Epoxy floors have had important usage throughout history as well. During the Second World War, many military installations used epoxy to protect their floors against all of the heavy machinery being transported across them. NASA even used epoxy on their space capsule!

An Extremely Durable Option

Perhaps the most significant reason epoxy flooring is so popular is because of how durable it is. Epoxy floors can withstand a great deal of usage and wear and tear. With an epoxy floor, you can design or color it any way you like, incorporating your business’ logo or color scheme.
