Pretty much all flooring fits into one of two categories, floor coverings or structural installations. There are pros and cons to each, and as someone who’s been providing our commercial flooring services to Maryland for years, we wanted to take some time today to talk about the differences between floor coverings and structural installations.

What is Structural Installation Flooring?

Structurally installed floors are floors that are actually a part of your home or business’ structure. These floors provide structural value to your home and can’t be removed without adjusting your home’s infrastructure. Considered permanent floors, solid hardwood, ceramic tile, and stone flooring are the most common forms of structural installation flooring.

What are Floor Coverings?

Floor coverings are not part of the home’s structure, and instead only add aesthetic value. Some of the most common kinds of floor coverings homeowners opt for are engineered wood, laminate, luxury vinyl tile, luxury vinyl planks, carpet, and vinyl. Floor coverings are less expensive than structural installation flooring and are easier to install.
